What are the benefits of using Retinol on the skin?

Retinol can assist with increasing cell turnover to improve the overall skin texture - targeting fine lines, pores, scarring, acne etc and also improving the skin tone as it can assist with pigmentation and sun damage too.

Why are there four different levels of Retinol?

We have formulated 4 levels of varying strength (starting at Level 1 0.25%, to Level 4 1.0%), allowing every skin type and experience level to enjoy the benefits of retinol at a pace that feels comfortable. Each skin will have a threshold of how strong a retinol it can tolerate! Some skins may find that Level 1 or Level 2 is their ideal long-term match, while others may gradually build up to stronger concentrations, such as Level 3 or Level 4. Introducing retinol slowly allows us to monitor how the skin responds and minimise the likelihood of irritation, dryness and sensitivity. Once the skin has adjusted and is tolerating its current strength well, you can decide whether progressing to the next level is the right step for you.

What does the Afterglow Bakuchiol do for the skin?

Our esmi Afterglow Bakuchiol is formulated to support smoother, firmer and more radiant-looking skin while helping to minimise the visible signs of ageing. It works to improve the appearance of fine lines, uneven skin tone, loss of elasticity and dullness, all while helping to maintain the skin's natural barrier.

What is the difference between Bakuchiol and Retinol?

Unlike traditional retinoids, bakuchiol doesn't bind directly to retinoid receptors within the skin. Instead, it influences many of the same cellular pathways involved in collagen production and skin renewal, helping to improve the appearance of fine lines, uneven skin tone and loss of firmness. Because bakuchiol works differently from retinol, it is often better tolerated by sensitive skin types and is less likely to cause dryness, flaking and irritation.
